You may or may not know Sydney, but if you’re reading this, then I know you’ve seen her work.
Sydney is our marketing director and has been creating good looking content for us since last summer. She is currently a senior Public Relations major at Northwestern College. She usually gets to stay behind the camera and is the one writing these posts. But today, I (Steve) get the pleasure of introducing y’all to her.
Even though I regularly call her Sydney Bo Bidney, her middle name is actually Ann. Sydney grew up in the suburbs of Des Moines, IA, and played a whole bunch of volleyball before graduating high school and coming up here to Orange City. Her preferred style is “baggy grandpa” and admits to swiping thrift store finds before older gentlemen can get to them. This grandpa looking marketing director is getting married to Ben (our GM) later this year. I still haven’t heard if the wedding theme will also be “baggy grandpa.” Here’s hoping.
One of the first times I got to hang out with Sydney outside of work, she brought a pie.
Who doesn’t like pie? The answer is me. I don’t like pie. Call me a monster, but listen, friends. Sydney is no baggy grandpa when it comes to making pie. No. Sydney is a three-time Iowa State Fair ribbon winning baker. That. That was gosh dern good pie, and every single one of you should start thinking of nice things to do for Sydney so she will want to make you pie.
Here’s a good place to start. Buy Sydney a plant. Sydney loves plants. If you live near Orange City, you may be acutely aware that now is not the season for feeling connected to nature. It’s a bit bleak outside. Watering and taking care of plants fills that nature gap in her life. Like, Sydney even tracks her own water consumption using an app called Plant Nanny (which I am now hooked on). Plants are just the beginning, though. Sydney wants to grow up and be a mother of plants and dogs and humans. Since she waters plants every day and is a certified dog trainer, she really just needs to figure out humans.
Sydney is an enneagram 9w8. For her, this means she feels capable of hearing different perspectives, can keep the peace, and can express her anger without outburst. In the book Millenneagram by Hannah Paasch, the 9 is described as a wallflower, which inspired Sydney’s behind the ear tattoo of a flower. Sydney describes herself as a peaceful, strong, feminist, and has one helluva bedtime routine centered around calming self-care. You should buy her a plant and ask her about it.
Having Sydney on staff has been a complete joy and a huge relief. She has a wonderful sense of humor, which brings laughter into the shop every day. She has a clear and organized vision for our brand and has been patient with me and diligent with our marketing. I am thankful for her life and want to invite you to get to know her and celebrating her with the rest of us.
Come on in and have a Peppermint Hot Chocolate (Sydney’s favorite drink) from Feb 21-27 for $1 off!
